Health benefits of magnesium.

Magnesium is something I like to call a miracle mineral. It plays a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in your body. To name a few of its perks right off the bat it helps with nerve and muscle function, it regulates blood pressure and supports your immune system.

And those are just some of the health benefits! This miracle mineral does SO much for your body. I’m a firm believer that everyone should either be taking a magnesium supplement or are making sure they’re getting their daily recommended dose of magnesium.

What is magnesium?

Magnesium is one of seven essential micronutrients, which need to be consumed in trace amounts per day. Adequate magnesium prevents problems with bones, your cardiovascular system, diabetes, and a lot of other things.

What does magnesium do?

Magnesium helps with:

-Bone health, by helping your bones absorb calcium, as well as activating vitamin D which is essential for healthy bones.

-Diabetes, by helping metabolize carbohydrates and glucose.

-Heart health. Magnesium helps maintain the health of your muscles and this includes your heart.

-Relieves anxiety. Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant. It also changes the way your body processes stress.

-Helps you sleep. Magnesium helps you with deep, restorative sleep by maintaining healthy levels of something called GABA, which is a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep.

Why should you take magnesium?

All in all, magnesium helps keep your body functioning optimally. I take a magnesium supplement about an hour before I go to sleep and I wake up feeling amazing and ready for the day. I haven’t woken up once in the middle of the night since starting it!

Magnesium IS a mineral you can take too much of. Some side effects include bloating, diarrhea, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting.

Large doses of magnesium can cause serious side effects, including low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, mental confusion, changes to breathing, coma, and death. It can also interact with certain medications, so like all supplements, please consult your doctor before using it.
